Privacy Policy

This policy describes how Brave Waffles, LLC ("we", "us") handles data in Consistent Notes, our macOS journaling app, and on bravewaffles.io. The short version: your notes stay on your Mac, we don't collect your data, and we can't read anything you write.

1. What the App Stores on Your Mac

Consistent Notes keeps everything on your device:

• Your notes and ToDos: stored in a local database inside the app's sandboxed container.
• Markdown copies: each note is also saved automatically as a dated .md file. By default these live inside the app's sandboxed container — you can choose any folder on your Mac in the app's settings, which is where we recommend keeping them.
• Your preferences: theme, reminders, editor settings, and the notes folder location, stored locally.
• Local logs: the app writes minimal diagnostic logs to your Mac's unified logging system. These contain only technical metadata (counts, dates, settings) — never your notes, ToDos, search text, or keystrokes.

2. What We Never Do

• No accounts — the app has no sign-in of any kind.
• No analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting.
• No advertising or tracking.
• No cloud sync — if that ever changes, this policy will be updated first (see Changes below).
• No access to your notes — we cannot read, recover, or hand over what you write, because we never receive it.

3. Purchases

Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. Purchase and subscription status is verified on your Mac from Apple's signed transactions — we don't run a separate server, and we don't store your transaction history. You can view, change, or cancel a subscription anytime in your App Store account settings.

4. Reminders

The daily reminder is a local notification scheduled on your Mac at a time you choose. Notification content contains none of your writing. You can turn reminders off in the app or in macOS notification settings.

5. This Website

bravewaffles.io is a static website. It uses no analytics, no cookies, and no tracking scripts, and it doesn't ask for any personal information.

6. Third Parties

The only third parties involved are:

• Apple — App Store purchases and subscriptions, governed by Apple's privacy policy.
• GitHub — hosts this website, governed by GitHub's privacy statement.
• Microsoft — hosts our email. If you contact support@bravewaffles.io, Microsoft processes that email under Microsoft's privacy statement.

We don't share your data with anyone else, because we don't have it. Any party that ever receives data through the app or this website will be required to protect it no less carefully than this policy describes.

7. Retention and Deletion

You're in control:

• Notes, ToDos, and settings: kept on your Mac until you delete them. They live in the app's sandboxed storage (~/Library/Containers/io.bravewaffles.consistency) — note that deleting the app itself may leave this data behind, so remove that folder too if you want everything gone.
• Markdown files: if you've chosen your own notes folder, the .md files there are yours — they stay until you delete them, with or without the app. If you're still using the default location, they live inside the app's sandboxed container along with your notes.
• Emails: if you email us, we keep the conversation only as long as needed, and delete it on request.
• Purchases: we retain nothing; your purchase history lives in your Apple account.

8. Your Choices

Because everything is local, most controls are already in your hands: choose your notes folder in the app's settings, turn reminders on or off, and delete notes or the app itself whenever you like.

9. Children

Consistent Notes is a general-audience journaling tool. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children, and since the app collects nothing, there's nothing for a child to disclose to us.

10. Changes to This Policy

If we change this policy, we'll post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date. For changes that materially affect how your data is handled — for example, if we ever add optional iCloud sync — we'll say so prominently on this page and in the app before it takes effect.
